Screw achievements. It's a bell rung by Pavlovian marketing-scientists at MS, and the gamers are the conditioned droolers, with money pouring out rather than saliva.
Humans have always been hard-wired to crave reward. You don't need 'marketing-scientists' to realize this. Pretty much anything one does is done for a reward.

I read an article recently that said the male reward response is greater. They measured brain waves or activity or something and males had more of "it" (whatever it is..). I use that as my excuse. I can't help myself. I like rewards!

Achievements are still stupid though. I STILL don't understand them (as a PC gamer) even after getting a taste of them in Orange Box. Whoopty-Fucking-Do, I got "x" achivement? Honestly, who gives a shit? Why do people buy into this crap and salivate over stupid shit like Achievements?
Oh, they're also in Sins, but still, I find myself not caring.

Achievements. If you don't like them, they're quite easy to ignore. They can sometimes add life to a game one may have otherwise put down. I don't think they're stupid and they're definitely not worth getting so worked up about.
